Welcome to Theater Artists Olympia 2009-10 Season

TAO is a collective of local artists committed to producing high quality theater. TAO's focus is on producing materials that are thematically more provocative, and interpretations of classics more experimental than generally found in the Olympia area. Our mission is to present creative theatrical pieces that are under-represented in the community.

Oct 22 - Nov Washington Center Black Box
The Uninvited

The Uninvited by Tim Kelly.
Directed by Tim Samland.

An adaptation of Dorothy Macardle's classic novel that features a brother and sister, Roddy and Pam, who purchase a house in England by the name of Cliff End that overlooks the Irish Sea. Cliff End has an unsavory reputation due to the fact that fifteen years earlier a murder may or may not have occurred by the gnarled tree that can be viewed from the parlor window. What ensues is the stuff of classic ghost-story lore – blowing windows, unexplained cool drafts, dreadful apparitions and even a séance. The action builds steadily to a truly terrifying climax in which the ghost is discovered to be not only real but also dangerous! Many people will recall the classic film of the same name that starred Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey in 1944.

DECEMBER 3 - 20 at Midnight Sun:
Poona The Fuck Dog by Jeff Goode
Directed by Robert McConkey

These outrageous "Fairy tales for Grown-ups" are not for the easily offended! Poona, our ingenuous heroine, meets up with aliens, talking shrubs, and mealy-mouthed salesmen in her quest to find someone to play in her big pink box. Nothing is sacred in this raucous assault on the power of language.

Apr 29 - May 15 Washington Center Black Box
The Brain From Planet X ~The Musical by Bruce Kimmel
Directed by Josh Anderson.

SEE... a musical so hilarious that it sold out theaters from coast to coast!
SEE... the first show told in "FEEL-O-RAMA"!
SEE... an all-knowing, all-singing, all-dancing giant brain!
... really, what more could you want from a night on the town?
A rip-roaring musical send-up of bad 50s sci-fi movies, The Brain From Planet X tells the story of an alien invasion circa 1958. When an ill-intentioned band of interplanetary travelers arrive on Earth with a plan to take over the world, an all-too regular, nuclear family is forced to defend the human race from will-bending extinction. Can YOU withstand the power of the Brain from Planet X?!

July 1-18 2010 at Olympia Little Theater:
Othello by William Shakespeare
Directed by Robert McConkey

Set in the year 1963, this is a story of love, loneliness, jealousy, use and misuse of power, retribution, faith and forgiveness. As tragedy, it takes us on a journey where we can confront our greatest hopes and fears, our best and worst of actions, and the extremities of what it means to be human.
